Dr. Slugocki is offering Weight Consults

Dr. Kathleen Slugocki is a member of Women’s Healthcare of Illinois, which partners with Family First Medical Group to offer the best healthcare options, all under one roof.

Right now, we are all Marissa Guerrero, standing in awe of her colleague, Dr. Kathleen Slugocki.

“She’s incredible,” Marissa said. “Her talents make this the perfect destination for patients all over our community.”

Tiphne Sharpe agrees.

“I don’t know how she does it,” said Sharpe, a midwife with Women’s Healthcare of Illinois, which partners with Family First Medical Group. “She accomplishes so much. It’s like she has more hours in the day than the rest of us.”

In addition to being a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist with expertise in minimally invasive surgery, adolescent and teen healthcare, postpartum depression, and delivering healthy babies and caring for pregnant mamas, Dr. Slugocki somehow found time over the past two years to study for and pass her boards in Obesity Medicine.

“It’s very important to me that I have all the resources to treat every patient,” Dr. Slugocki said. “Studying and passing the boards gives me insights into the reasons and physiology about why patients struggle with their weight.”

Dr. Slugocki, who describes herself as a woman who has struggled with weight her entire life, is now offering Weight Consult visits for our patients.

“So many people have been shamed because of their weight, including myself,” she said. “I’m excited to provide tools to help my patients achieve their optimal health in a safe, caring fashion. I am eager to work with our patients to help them work on their weight-loss goals.”

When people battle weight issues, they increase their risk of major health problems, including

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease and strokes
  • Certain types of cancer
  • Sleep apnea
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Fatty liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Pregnancy problems, such as high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and increased risk for cesarean delivery (C-section)

“By focusing on overall health, I can give people a path toward a healthier, happier life,” said Dr. Slugocki, who also happens to be a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a mother of twins.

Maybe Tiphne was right … Dr. Slugocki does have more hours in the day than the rest of us.

“No one should feel ashamed of their weight. I can speak from personal experience, so I want to bring that perspective of care to our patients.”
